What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the process of developing computers, computer-controlled robots
and software that think similarly as intelligent humans. A typical artificial intelligence system
takes a large data set as input and processes the data with an intelligent algorithm that learns
and improves each time a new data set is processed. In short, it extends for giving a machine
the ability to make decisions and predictions without human input.
John McCarthy, who coined the term in 1956, defines it as “the science and engineering of
making intelligent machines. The concept of artificial intelligence dates back to the 1940s, and
the term “artificial intelligence” was first introduced and used at a conference at Dartmouth
College in 1956.
The term artificial intelligence is also used to describe a property of machines or programs: the
intelligence that the system demonstrates.AI research uses tools and insights from many fields,
including computer science, psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, cognitive science,
linguistics, operations research, economics, control theory, probability, optimization and logic.
AI research also projects with tasks such as robotics, control systems, scheduling, data mining,
logistics, speech recognition, facial recognition and many others.Learning is based on empirical
data and is associated with non-symbolic AI, scruffy AI and soft computing. It is thought that the
human brain uses multiple techniques to both formulate and cross-check results.
● Its importance lies in making our lives easier. These technologies are a great asset to
humans and are programmed to reduce the human effort as much as possible.
● These machines tend to boost up our tasks and processes along with a guaranteed level
of precision and accuracy, and therefore this is what makes them a useful and important

tool.

Goals of Artificial Intelligence

To Create Intelligent & Expert Systems: The development began making systems that
illustrate intelligent behaviour. The functions that are expected of these machines are

learning, demonstrating, explaining, and advising its users.

To Impart Human Intelligence into the Machines: Creating systems and developing
software that understands, thinks, learns, and behaves like humans.
The programming languages which are preferred for AI are Python, R, Lisp, Prolog, and Java.
Over time, artificial intelligence technologies will become more understood and accessible, and
more industries will be benefited from the efficiency from the technology itself. By developing AI
and using these technologies in the field of human-machine interaction, a country can not only
advance technological progress, but also gain the benefits of its rising technology.
