Only two years after PowerPoint, Google Slides has surpassed one billion installs on the Play Store.

Although some Microsoft Office aficionados will argue otherwise, most users will find Google’s suite of productivity programs to be more than enough. Whether you’re a student working late to finish that last-minute 25-page paper or a business owner keeping track of your money with a meticulously-edited spreadsheet, one of Drive’s many tools have you covered. Google Slides may not be as well-known as Google Docs or Sheets, but it appears to be gaining up.

Slides have officially surpassed the one billion install mark on the Play Store, indicating that, while slideshows aren’t as popular as spreadsheets or papers, they’re still vital. Following Google Docs in October 2020 and Google Sheets in July 2021, it’s the final of the primary “trilogy” of Drive apps to accomplish this milestone.

Sheets hasn’t seen any substantial changes or innovations in comparison to the company’s other products. Google dropped its Wear OS-based remote for controlling slideshows just a few weeks ago, quietly deleting it from the Play Store. Although it was probably underutilized, it was a useful addition for anyone who gave presentations in workplaces or classes regularly. Last year, before the official launch of Android 12, Google gave the app a Material You makeover. It also changed the name of its “Present” button to “Slideshow” to avoid confusion with a similar-sounding button in Meet.

The club of one billion installs is slowly but steadily filling up. Slides join apps like Telegram, YouTube Music, and — yes — Microsoft PowerPoint, which was released more than two years ago and beat it to the punch. If you haven’t already, download the app from the Play Store link below.
